Why M&M Music Studio?

We (Mieke Maligne and Matthew Jumpsen) pride ourselves and our studio on:

-Being well educated. Mieke (Voice) and Matthew (Guitar)  each have a degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music from MacEwan University. Mieke also recently completed level 1 and level 2 Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method. This method is regarded as being of the highest quality of teaching and learning about the voice in contemporary styles. "It is based upon what the voice is doing, not just how the voice sounds." Visit http://somaticvoicework.com/  to learn so much more! Not only that but Mieke and Matthew have each taken private lessons for most of their lives! We will teach you to improve your craft, keeping your vocal and physical health as our number one priority.

- Being able to offer what is in demand and happening in the world today! Classical technique, while it has much to offer, is not a "one size fits all" for Contemporary Commercial Music styles. CCM styles is contemporary music such as pop, rock, jazz, R&B, etc. Being able to offer the proper knowledge for the relevant music the students want to pursue is so important.

-Experience. We have a combined seven years of teaching experience with success for all levels of students and have learned lots about teaching along the way! Through our experience we have gained the tools that make for the best learning experience.

- We practice what we preach! We are working musicians and have been for years now. Mieke has released two studio albums: "Just the Sun" and "Mosaic." The former winning Jazz Album of the year at the 2012 Edmonton Music awards and the single "My Call Goes" from "Mosaic" being nominated for "R&B recording of the year" at the 2015 music awards. Both receive international radio airplay. Matthew has had success gigging with various bands, notably the Edmonton based "Barren Blues Trio", as well as being a successful studio musician. We want to share what we have learnt as active members of the music industry with you!

- There are benefits only in-home lessons can provide. As the owners and teachers we can take the time to give each student the attention they deserve and be more accommodating to our clientele.

- Music should be fun! In our experience the quality of education and engagement of students is increased when you are having fun.

- We know that no two individuals are alike. No two people learn alike either. We pride ourselves on being able to teach and explain concepts tailored for different learners. Our lessons are customized for the students needs. Whether you are a visual learner, hands on, or shy or nervous about lessons we'll do our best to make it work for YOU.

- Being life long learners, we are always striving to improve our craft. Whether it is our own practice or furthering our own education. We keep up with the changes in the music industry and want to share what we learn with our students!
